New Passenger Stressors

In the old days, much was written about flying stressors that passengers & crew may experience with air-travel.

These old air-flight stressors included:

  • Concerns of altitude and humidity
  • Carbon dioxide and ozone accumulation
  • Fear of aerosolized infectious microbes
  • Contaminated water
  • Deep vein thrombosis

Economic gains of body packing as many human beings as possible into a closed space with diminutive ventilation has created a new world of stressors.

New passenger air-flight stressors may include:

  • Encroachment of personal space: The constant arousal of evolutionary fear emotions will wear passengers out. The constant sensing of being close to another person will overwhelm one’s neuro-senses because of lack of personal protection distance.
  • Provocation of claustrophobia: Densely packed cabins
  • Acoustical overload: The constant exposure to cell phone chatter and passenger’s meaningless conversation is nerve racking.
  • Meal time discontinuity: Lack of regular meals can wreck havoc on people who desire digestive system regularity.
  • Demise of passenger-to-passenger etiquette: Some people snore, pick their noses, pass gas, and belch. Lack of passenger-to passenger behavior standards can be exhausting for other passengers. Since passengers no longer have a right to personal space, passengers must get used to very close exposure and tolerance of other peoples personal habits for great lengths of time
