Passenger Metabolism and Increasing CO2 Production
Carbon dioxide (CO2) gas production into the coach cabin is a function of collective passenger metabolism. Different passengers produce this gas at different rates. Larger size and metabolically active passengers will produce more CO2.
Metabolically Active Passengers:
- Re-arranging seating preferences
- Stowing away luggage
- Getting to know neighbor
- Shocked at little seat space
Heightened CO2 production may occur mostly during the metabolically active boarding and initial “get-to-know your neighbor” period of enplanement.
Metabolically active passengers are producing much CO2. Yet…it is during this boarding & enplanement phase that airlines infuse the least amount of fresh air.
And…
Until the pilot expends some resources to cool down the cabin, passengers will feel uncomfortable.
